Can I rent textbooks from the library?
Spring 2024
Answer
The majority of textbooks are part of the library's course reserves collection. These are textbooks that instructors have put on hold for their class and are located behind the circulation desk. Course reserve textbooks are for in-library use and cannot leave the building.
Search the library’s catalog to check for available course reserve textbooks or visit the circulation desk during hours of operation to speak with staff. Provide the title of the textbook, edition, and the class you're taking.
Checking out a course reserve
- You will need to present your student ID or a valid picture ID at the circulation desk.
- Textbooks have a 2-hour loan period (for most textbooks).
- Textbook loans are for in-library use only.
- There is a $1 late fee for every hour (or any part of the hour) the textbook is returned late.
Requesting a textbook chapter
In an effort to support remote learning, we are offering to scan one chapter of a textbook and making it available for students online. In order to comply with copyright guidelines, textbook services are limited to one chapter per book.
- Search the library’s catalog to check if the textbook you’re looking for is available.
- Fill out the Reserve Textbook Chapter Request Form.
- You will receive an email of the scanned copy of the requested chapter within 1-2 business days.
- For any additional questions please contact the circulation desk.
