Can I donate my books to the library?

Spring 2024

Answer

Due to space concerns, Nealley Library is not currently accepting any donations of materials listed below.  Please discuss your donation with a librarian before bringing them to the library.

Book Donations

Items we do not accept as donations include, but are not limited to:

  • Books that are grimy, musty, moldy or mildewed
  • Books with torn pages or missing covers, or that have excessive writing, markings, or highlighting
  • Informational books (e.g. technological, tax, investment, medical, educational, legal, etc.) older than 5 years
  • Encyclopedias and textbooks older than 5 years
  • All periodicals (e.g. magazines, newspaper, journals)
  • VHS tapes, audio cassettes, and vinyl recordings

Once donated, items become the property of the Santa Ana College Library and may be added to the collection, sold through the library book sale, or otherwise discarded.  Any items added to the collection will be in accordance with the selection policy of the library.

Donated items are accepted without condition and cannot be returned to the donor. The library will issue a receipt for items donated upon request but does not establish a monetary value for the donation.  Additionally, the library cannot give receipts for previously donated material.

If you are donating more items than you are able to carry, please contact the library at (714) 564-6700. A library staff member will inform you if the library is able to accept your materials and arrange a convenient time for your drop-off.

Please contact the library with any questions or concerns about our material donation policy.

Thank you for your interest in donating to the Santa Ana College Library.
